Meghna Gulzar, a mother and Bollywood film director, fresh from the success and acclaim of Talvar, a sensitively made film on the Aarushi Talwar murder, speaks to theIndusparent on her post-baby journey.Here are some excerpts from the Q&A.

Within a year things started going awry. It is always the subject, says Meghna Gulzar, whose films reflect her preoccupation with issues of relevance to the India of today. In 1973, the couple had a daughter, their only child, whom they named Meghna Gulzar. Gulzar is one of the most renowned poets in India who also won one Academy Award. Talking about it, Meghna says, “It is completely symbiotic, not that of a parent and a child. Gulzar refused to sign Raakhee in any of his projects despite her repeated requests. We grow from each other, we feed off each other.” It is this unique equation and mutual love for one other that has compelled Meghna to take forward her 2004 biography of Gulzar, 'Because He Is', and add to … Meghna also addressed the need to bring up children as wise friends and not as prudent parents. The director of "Filhaal", "Talvar" and now "Raazi", a cross-border spy drama that explores the India-Pakistan dynamic against the backdrop of 1971 War, believes her growth as a filmmaker has coincided with the maturing of the audience. She thinks about the introduction of her child, Samay, as the high purpose of her life. Meghna Gulzar consistently cherishes being in Kashmir, as the greater part of her youth has been spent in Kashmir, being there for broadened time of her folks' shoots. When it comes to her most loved film, she unendingly goes for applauding 'When Harry Met Sally(1989).'
